BACKGROUND

The Sahtu Land Use Planning Board (SLUPB) is a regulatory agency established pursuant to the Sahtu Dene and Metis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement (SDMCLA) and the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA)

The Sahtu Settlement Area (SSA) is the geographic area within which the terms of the SDMCLA are applicable. The total area of the SSA is 280,238 square kilometres (including Great Bear Lake). There are five communities located in the SSA: Colville Lake, Fort Good Hope, Tulita, Deline and Norman Wells.
